On stage are the two Danish conductors, saxophonist/flautist Christina von Bülow and bassist Morten Ankarfeldt. For almost 10 years, they have had a quartet together with two tough Brazilian musicians, drummer Cassius Theperson and guitarist Caio Marcio Santos. This quartet has brought Stan Getz's and João Gilberto's 1960 collaboration into a contemporary and Nordic context. Who else but Christina von Bülow would do this? She herself has been taught by master Stan Getz.

This means that the music has the easily recognizable Brazilian, playful lightness and at the same time it mixes with elements of modern jazz. Rio Jazz 4 plays original compositions as well as refined interpretations of music from the beloved Brazilian songbook. It will be a mix of new and old on a foundation of bossanova and samba.

And then to the guest of the evening, the Brazilian legend, saxophonist/flautist Edu Neves. He is one of the greatest in Brazilian music and has played with Hermeto Pascoal among others.

Edu Neves adds even more authenticity and power to the music when he goes on exciting musical journeys alone or together with fellow instrument member von Bülow.

Morten Ankarfeldt (1976) Bassplayer:

A fantastic groove, strong beat and big sound is what characterizes the bass playing of Morten Ankarfeldt. He’s a dedicated and a committed sideman with great skills to back up the soloist. His fabulous time holds the rhythm section together as one unit. As a bass player involved in many different projects, he covers various stiles such as: Straight-ahead and modern jazz, fusion, funk, Brazilian, pop, blues, folk etc.

At the age of 8 Morten Ankarfeldt got his first guitar, - a very small one! He played the guitar for many years and grew up attending a very music orientated private school. In high school he picked up the bass and knew that this was what he wanted to do.

In 1998 Morten Ankarfeldt applied The Rhythmic Conservatory in Copenhagen and graduated as a erudite bassplayer in 2003. Through out the time at the Conservatory and during several trips to New York City he studied a.o. Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (NHØP), Rufus Ried, Eric Rives, Jesper Bodilsen, Ben Street, Ed Thigpen, David Liebman.

He has played professionally for the last 15 years with a variety of Danish and International acts, including Jacob Fisher, Bernardo Aguiar, Tom Hagans, Doug Raney, Sinne Eeg, Jesper Thilo, Jørgen Emborg, Søs Fenger, Malene Mortensen, Paulo Moura, Zé Paulo Becker, James Harman, Peter Rosendal, Nikolaj Bentzon, Christina von Bülow.... He has performed across Europe, Russia, Japan, Thailand, China, Brasil, Argentina and frequently recorded as a sideman. (Check out: www.basstrack.dk)
