Golborne Junction, BR 47283 4S57 (18.40 Trafford Park - Glasgow FLT) August 10th 1984.

            BR Blue 47283 has just traversed Parkside & Lowton Junctions and opens up on the down fast of the WCML at Golborne Junction with the Friday evening 4S57 Trafford Park - Glasgow 'liner'. Ten minutes later 47283 will come off at Wigan North Western giving way to AC traction for the trip north ... energy efficiency in 1984!
*In the background Parkside Colliery opened in 1962-3, 
 at its peak Parkside employed 1800 and potentially 100 million tons of coal were identified. All that of course is history, closure came in March 1993 realising only a fraction of that total. Parkside was the last Pit to close from the once vast Lancashire Coalfield. Nothing remains, to stand there today all you would see is just a forest of trees.
