Going Wide at Belvue - a photo on Flickriver

On Sunday, I was lucky enough to run into the Holy Trifecta of Cool Stuff, Sunlight, and Free Time!

I really only intended to shoot this train in Topeka in the north-south stretch between MP 65 & 67, but after I drove out to Menoken to confirm the train's routing west, I just kind of kept on driving west, as anything neat running out on the KP is worthwhile.

Anyway, here's BNSF's rebuilt SD70MACe no. 9730 leading the OSJWU, an oil train off of the KCS (CPKC) in St. James, LA.

My final shot of the day was here, as it was about to cross under US 24 just west of Belvue, KS. Typically, this is a location that I shoot with the long lens ( flic.kr/p/2k5vNFe ), but the mid-day sun really didn't lend itself to that, so I went for this instead, which was something new for me.
