Easton Lane Limekiln - a photo on Flickriver

            The limekiln in Easton Lane, Portland, probably dated from the 1860s, when the adjacent stone saw mills of Messrs.Stewards & Co. were opened. It passed to the ownership of the Bath Stone Firms Ltd in 1900, when they acquired Messrs.Stewards & Cos. business, but they did not produce lime thereafter, the building being used as a store for quarry crane chains. It became derelict in the 1980s, but was tastefully converted with the adjacent building into a private dwelling and workshop in the 1990s, including the kiln itself.
