The View from "Lazy Bay" - a photo on Flickriver

            This beautiful view is the one seen across Swizerland's Thunersee (See = lake) from the Thunersee's Faulensee. Huh?

The mountain on the left is the Sigriswiler Rothorn. I don't know what peak is peeping at us from the right. The village on the lake shore is Merligen. It is part of the charming, lakeside municipality of Sigriswil. 

* The real name of Lazy Bay is Faulensee ("See" is German for Lake). However, it is not a lake; it is a small bay on Switzerland's Thunersee (Lake Thun). In German, faulen can mean lazy. The waters of the Faulensee are generally less wind-driven and more tranquil than in much of the rest if the lake. I had thought that maybe this was the source of "lazy" in its name... 

...HOWEVER...(as per comment below from Thomas B.) It seems that in this case faulen means (in English) "stinky." Oh me. Faulensee (both the village and the bay) smell really nice to me. So, in spite of this news, I have decided NOT to rename my photo. 

Here is something which, at first glance, adds to the name confusion (for me at least).  In German, Thun is a short version of Thunfisch (tuna in English). There are certainly no tuna in the Thunersee. Here is the real source of the name Thun (the town and its lake) from Wikipedia: 
"The name of the town derives from the Celtic term Dunum, meaning "fortified town". It fell to Rome in 58 BC, when Roman legions conquered almost all of Switzerland, and it soon became one of the main centers of Roman administration in the region."
