honey buzzard in the drizzle --- ---- '' Explored ''

This is the second picture of this bird ... from the day I spent the day at the Glaslyn Osprey projects' open / fun day and on show there were one or two birds of prey ..this one was a female bird which was injured by a car approx 8 years ago in mid Wales ...it was looked after and despite all the care was not restored back to 100% health as it had a damaged retina ...this meant it could not be released to fend for itself. After the necessary permissions and agreement with vets etc it was decided that the bird be kept in captivity ..as you can see it is a healthy beautiful bird and I was delighted to see it as it was my first ever.
Honey buzzards, unlike most UK birds of prey, have adapted to a diet of insects and their larvae. They rob bee and wasp nests for the insects and their grubs inside, although a small proportion of their diet includes little mammals and reptiles.
It is a summer visitor to its breeding sites and spends the winter in Africa.
