Wentworth Rainbow Tessellations A Splash of Colour 1

            Our latest BCD meeting show & tell theme is 'A Splash of Colour', for our upcoming 3-day virtual house party meeting in March 2021.

I have a lot of Wentworth tessellation jigsaws, many of them 'Personal Puzzles' or chosen for their difficult images. Here is a rainbow array of tessellation jigsaws. (Actually the first, Be My Valentine, is not a tessellation but a whimsy cut with an edge pattern and only heart whimsies.)

- Wentworth 250pc Be My Valentine
- Wentworth 250pc Barley Field - the first tessellation cut I ever did in 2014, 2pc tessellation
- Wentworth 529pc Kaleidoscope - the first MDT large tessellation I did in 2015, maple leaf/man 2pc tessellation. I used this cut for my three personal puzzles, New England Fall Quilts 1, 2 & 3.
- Wentworth 380pc Difficult Daffodils - this pattern has 2-part stars, lozenges and triangles and was also used for 380pc Van Gogh Almond Blossom, Avian World and possibly others.

- Wentworth 250pc Personal Puzzle - Meadow Dancers, a leaping bunny cut - the photo was taken at York Arboretum
- Wentworth 216pc Personal Puzzle - Topiary Vista, 1pc windmill cut - the photo was taken in an Italian renaissance garden near Rome
- Wentworth 250pc Personal Puzzle - Loch Awe Serpent, 4pc cut, my first personal tessellation, the cut is an old one used by Wentworth for many of the early MDW puzzles, eg Lobster Pots, Conker Harvest, floats, Balloon Rainbow.
- Wentworth 250pc Personal Puzzle - Snowy Garden, using the same cut as Difficult Daffodils

- Wentworth 380pc Personal Puzzle - Hardy Geranium Blues, using the tri-arrow cut, which Wentworth used for a number of images including New York City Night Reflection & the beautiful Triskelion Mandala.
- Wentworth 300pc National Trust Trerice House, Early Sunlight on the Great Hall Window. This swimming swan cut is not an exact tessellation because the swans have slightly different shapes. The cut was developed for Infinite Swans, and has also been used for other images, such as Swan Upping at Marsh Lock. I also have a personal puzzle done with this cut.
- Wentworth 548pc Personal Puzzle - Snowy Fields at Sunrise, using the skating reindeer cut. This was one of two sizes of tessellation cuts developed for 'The Puzzle That Froze Christmas'. Again it has subtle variations in the repeated reindeer shapes, to make the jigsaw possible.
- Wentworth 260pc Personal Puzzle - Strawberry Hill Ceiling, a 'spiral-lyre' 4pc cut developed for Kandinsky Squares in summer 2017.

I would like to develop a complete list of the tessellation-type MDW & MDT cut images (I can't get excited about the little MDZ ones) and have often thought about writing an article about them for the  BCD magazine. I like to think I was at least partly responsible for Wentworth offering larger MDT tessellations, as I suggested and nagged them about wanting this.

As Personal Puzzles, I've also got three c250pc jigsaws of similar images, done to the same cut which I plan to mix together and solve as a 750pc tessellation. The last mad personal tessellation fling I had was two more New England Fall 'Quilt' 500pc tessellations to mix together as a 1000pc tessellation. (My first collage was of 'portrait-oriented' images. Collages 2 & 3 are of landscape images, but the two jigsaws are to be stacked together in a portrait format.) I haven't been tempted to order any more personal tessellations since Wentworth raised the prices massively - and over the pandemic Wentworth haven't been doing personal puzzles anyway.
