Leek St Edward S-Wall Rose Window Morris & Co IMG_2819 adj

            One of two rose or wheel-windows which sit opposite each other at the top of the S & N side-walls of the church.The tracery dates from 1450-1550.

The S-wall rose glass, with its beautiful complex tudor roses, starburst/compass symbols, 'ihc' symbols and scroll carrying angels was designed by GF Bodley, and given by Sir Thomas Wardle in memory of his wife Dame Elizabeth Wardle. It was made by Morris & Co in 1903. Elizabeth Wardle died aged 68 in September 1902 - in January 1909 Thomas Wardle died aged 77 and his name and details were added to the brass inscription plate.

The Morris & Co glass painters were: Angels by Watson; roses, shields and stars by Wren.
