Leek St Edward's Burne-Jones Angel Wentworth Jigsaw Whimsies Out IMG_8276

            This photo was taken to the Nov 2915 BCD meeting, where the theme for the Show & Tell session was Christmas.

A personal Wentworth 250pc jigsaw showing the face of Burne-Jones's 'Angel with Scroll' which appears in the 1902 N-transept E-window of St Edward the Confessor at Leek. This is one of a pair of angels with scrolls in the lower tier of the large window, which has 5-lights, 2-tiers and tracery.

The jigsaw is a nice tight fit and the beauty of Burne-Jones's design and the glass painter's skill is not disrupted by the cut. I chose the Wentworth 250pc Nativity cut, which seemed highly appropriate to the scroll text. (In the window, the two angels flank an image of the Virgin & Child.)

The whimsy set includes Joseph leading Mary on a donkey; a nativity scene with crib, Mary & Joseph, star, two musical angels, ass and lamb; three wise men on camels following a star; gifts and a crown; shepherd and sheep.
