On Monday we visited Leek to see this small exhibition of domestic and church embroideries associated with Thomas and Elizabeth Wardle, and found it very enjoyable.

They kindly allowed us to take many photos of the exhibits (without flash), so I hope to be able to tempt a few more flickr friends to visit.

About eight churches are opening at specified times to show their treasured embroideries, and there have been some lectures, and planned mini-bus tours. We had a little time to spare and (although we hadn't booked and they were not listed as open) were fortunate to be able to visit St Edward the Confessor, Leek and St Edward the Confessor at Cheddleton - both of which have a number of Morris & Co windows.

I hope to get back to Leek before the exhibition closes to visit some of the other churches. Detailed opening times can be found on a discussion thread in the Edward Burne Jones flickr group.

Almost two years ago I was lucky to spot a previous Embroidery exhibition in Leek, and was rewarded with a wonderful day out looking at exquisite embroidery, Morris & Co windows and some amazing architecture.

To coincide with the exhibition this year the following churches are opening on specified dates to display all their Leek embroideries. The churches are also willing to open outside these times for organized groups. (As unexpected situations can arise, please check openings with the churches before making a special journey. )
