Denton County Courthouse (Denton, Texas)

            The 1896 Denton County Courthouse is another beautiful creation by architect W.C. Dodson. It replaced the 1877 courthouse which had been damaged by lightning, then condemned and demolished in 1894.
The original Denton County seat was Alton. A courthouse was built there in 1851. By 1857, county residents voted to move the seat to a more central location. They named the new town Denton.
The first courthouse in Denton, a frame structure, burned in 1875, destroying most of the county records.
