Little Stewkeley Huntingdonshire Cambridgeshire

            William Halles, rector 1590-1618 in cap and gown, once in the chancel, now in the south aisle. said to have been found under the floor of the north chapel during the 1887 reconstruction. 
The original latin inscription, now lost, translates as: 
"Whom does this tomb cover you ask. 
 It covers, O it covers one to whom our generations scarce have found an equal. 
 He whom it covers was both father and faithful shepherd here:  Stukeley mourns shepherd and father.   Certainly whether he was more outstanding as father than as shepherd I do not know;  but as father and shepherd he was loved.  
As shepherd he fed his sheep, he fed his ewes by his example, by his words,  and lastly by his own bread.  
As father, see   Though blest with a large family, his care was always that all should be well with them.  
As father and shepherd he enjoys and always will enjoy delights, heaven, prosperity, God
