Wawona Before the Fire - a photo on Flickriver

            Looking up the South Fork of the Merced River towards Wawona Dome, just a week or so before the wildfire broke out that has now burned much of the forest on the southern (right-hand) flank of the dome, and threatened this remarkable community in the southern part of Yosemite National Park.  This fire is one of three currently burning in the close vicinity, which have so far covered over 17,000 acres.  The evacuation order for Wawona has recently been lifted, but Highway 41 and the south entrance are now closed, so travelers to Yosemite must enter through either Yosemite Valley or Tioga Pass.  And as you can imagine, there is smoke everywhere.  Countless firefighters have been working hard through all of this, and they deserve our heartfelt thanks and respect.

Thanks very much for your kind comments and favorites while I have been away traveling and shooting these past couple of months.  I really appreciate it.
