Rufous last hurrah! - a photo on Flickriver

            I met a new friend who lives in the forest outside of Prescott. He has an incredible assortment of hummingbirds -over 100 most of the time. Most of the males have moved on, but a few Rufous and Black-chinned males remain with scores of females still present. He showed me a video of what appeared to be a swarm of bees around the feeders, but it was actually hundreds of hummers flying about and waiting their turns preparing for the long journey south ahead. It was an unbelievable sight! I missed the Blue-throated Mountain Gem, which left a few days ago. This giant hummingbird hasn't been seen in our county in Arizona since the 60s! I did get a plethora of other hummers though. It was an exciting morning!
