            *Carnaval de Santa Ana Chiautempan, Tlaxcala, México. Ocho dìas después del inicio del Carnaval, depués del miércoles de ceniza, se realiza el cierre de Carnaval u "Octava". El desfile es muy liberal y no se muestran los bailes tradicionales característicos de los carnavales de Tlaxcala. Solamente aparecen algunos contingentes o danzantes típicos aislados. Es una fiesta netamente popular y una mezcla cultural de imágenes modernas y tradicionales, desde individuos disfrazados del ex presidente Fox hasta imitadores de Michael Jackson o representaciones de Bin Laden. Es ecléctico, kitch, surrealista y ...fascinante!. 

*Carnival is an exuberant and important festivity in many places in México. In some towns is very traditional with old dances and customes, some times with prehispanic or colonial reminiscences. Santa Ana Chiautempan is a small location 125 km. far from Mexico City and 6 km from the city of Tlaxcala, the capital city of the Mexican state with the same name. Carnival festivities are specially remarkable in this state, every town has its dancing groups from the main “barrios” (neighborhoods). Many dances and customes are very traditional with old masks and dresses which imitate and make a mockery of the Spaniards of the colonial times. Eight days after the beginning of the festival, the “closing” of carnival is performed in some places like Santa Ana. A pagan and modern parade is performed with all kind of cultural and historical mixes. You can see customes of past Mexican presidents or actual politicians, international or movie characters, school groups, travesties and gays (real and fictitious), even members of the local police! and some dancers in traditional tlaxacalteca costumes. This Mexico is still there!.
