Nelson's column

            Nelson's Column is a monument in honor of the British naval hero Horatio Nelson and his victory (and death) at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. This column of honor was built in the period 1840-1843 on Trafalgar Square, which became famous in the 1820s. constructed and named after the famous naval battle at Trafalgar. The granite column is in Corinthian style, the column is 46 meters high. The capital (the top of the column) is decorated with acanthus leaves made of bronze from British cannons. At the bottom of the column are four bronze reliefs, depicting Nelson's four major victories: the Battle of Cape St Vincent (1797), Battle of the Nile (1798), Battle of Copenhagen (1801) and Battle of Trafalgar (1805). The bronze of these relief panels is said to come from captured French cannons.
