St Huberts Church * - a photo on Flickriver

            Not been here for over 2 years so thought it was time pay another visit if only to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the location.

Each time I have visited in the past there has been a different crop growing in the surrounding fields and sometimes no crops at all. This year it had been planted with sunflowers which would have made a colourful contrast. Sadly, it was too late and the majority of the flowers were dead. More frustrating is the fact that I had intended to visit some weeks ago but not gotten around to it. Clearly a lesson to be learned!

St Huberts Church was rebuilt by Earl Godwin of Wessex around 1053 to replace a 9th century Anglo Saxon Church that served the village of Idsworth in Hampshire. The village has long since disappeared and it is believed the residents were wiped out by plague around the 14th century. The deserted buildings fell under the plough but the Church survived and today is surrounded by fields. The area is designated as part of the South Downs National Park and St Huberts is still in use by an enthusiastic congregation.

The Church is a grade 1 listed building and therefore legally protected from major alteration of demolition without prior consent from the local authority – East Hampshire District Council.
