Magnificent Sounds! * - a photo on Flickriver

            On a recent visit to Exeter Cathedral – one of the oldest and most magnificent religious structures in England – I noticed the pipes on the organ almost resembled a face. Some may disagree but the architecture and particularly the roof are very impressive particularly as they date from a time when there were no power tools.

The organ was built by John Loosemore and dates from 1665. Over the centuries it has undergone several changes. It contains over 4,000 pipes, the largest being 32 feet long. The organ is still used on a regular basis.

Building of the Cathedral commenced in 1275 and quite rightly it is a Grade 1 listed building giving it legal protection from major alteration or demolition without prior consent from the Local Authority - Exeter City Council.
