The north western corner of the cloister, Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire

            While teaching at the summer school put on by Historic England I had a few minutes by myself. I decided I could extend a sketch I did a year earlier, teaching on the same course. This is where the western claustral range, containing the cellariumn or main storage area of the abbey and lay brothers accommodation, is attached to the church. Although the drawing took only about forty minutes in total it could be said to have taken a whole year and a bit since it wasn't really finished the first time around.
