The Two Towers
The Two Towers

The Two Towers, York Minster. It seemed to take a while longer than many of my recent drawings but it is finally finished.

Work on the present nave of the Minster had begun before 1291 but it was not completed until the 1350s, the delay being due to political turmoil, including war with Scotland and the Black Death. The lower parts of the two towers were left incomplete when work was started on the new choir and lady chapel in 1361, the south west tower being finished first in 1445. The north west tower was finished in the 1470s.
