Hebden Tea, 21 Shambles, York

Hebden Tea, York was built in the early 18th century, part of a block of houses which included 22, 23A and 1A Whip-ma-whap-ma Gate. The house was of three storeys with a front and back room on each floor and staircase between the rooms. In 1804 it is recorded as being occupied by a butcher, probably the date of alterations to the front including the large sash windows on each of the lower floors, though the present window and shop fascia have a beaded decoration that looks a little later in date. Hebden Tea serve take-away beverages from this window as well selling a wide selection of tea based brews inside. The shop is home to two lovely dogs who spend their time guarding the door (in a friendly way).
