Heugh Battery, The Headland, Hartlepool: Gun in barbette 2

            The Heugh Battery Museum doesn't give much information about the gun. It is probably a 5.25 inch dual purpose anti-aircraft and coast defence weapon which is mentioned in the official scheduled monument report. The battery was re-equipped with these in 1944 and used them mainly for training until coast defence was 'stood down' in 1956. This gun is probably an addition after the museum was set up in 2000 as the mounting isn't bolted down to the concrete and there are blocked holes visible under the metalwork which should have been filled with bolts. Drawn in an A5 Moleskine sketchbook with a Pentel 0.5mm pencil, the drawing is based on a photograph on my mobile phone.
