New York World's Fair 1964-1965. Postcard 76843-B published by Manhattan Postcard Pub. Co. (1963)

            The Unisphere is the theme symbol of the Fair.  Its top is 140 feet above ground level and the globe is 120 feet in diameter with an open grid of latitudes and longitudes supporting the land masses.  The reflecting pool beneath is 310 feet in diameter.  It dramatizes the interrelation of the peoples of the world and their yearning for "Peace through Understanding."

In the foreground is the bronze sculpture of the "Rocket Thrower," created by Donald De Lue for the 1964 New York World's Fair.  It stands 43 feet (13 metres) high and depicts an athletic and god-like man launching a small sphere into the sky which leaves an arcing trail of flames behind.  Over time the statue has been affected by corrosion and the structural integrity has diminished. One arm was repaired in 1989 and the statue was significantly restored in 2013.
