Still life with Townsend's Solitaire

            Another of my favorite still lifes, which also hangs on my study wall.   The unlikeliness of that egg with that bird, & in that elegant bowl as well, gives this a tension that to me sets this apart from my other still lifes (despite my fondness of the others).   But the tension is something I’d like to do more of – a touch of surprise & incongruity, even of magic or storytelling?

I didn’t do much in the way of still lifes with dead animals last year for the happy reason that we had no window strikes!   And I don’t hope for models to appear.  But if they should, I am ready with an idea---

Sad fate.   He should be flying, instead.   (And the chicken egg, too, is out of place with this bird.)
