Common Darter on a reed - a photo on Flickriver

            A male Common Darter, (Sympetrum striolatum) resting on a reed above a small pond at Hassacarr nature reserve, near Dunnington, East Yorkshire, UK. The reeds were at one end of the pond, but far enough from the edge that using a 300mm lens plus 1.4x teleconverter provided better reach. The sun was shining and there were plenty of dragonflies and damselflies around for a happy couple of hours for some close-up photography. Hopefully not the last decent chance before we get colder temperatures.
