A friend of the Apothecary. - a photo on Flickriver

            The emrgent single flower of Wood Avens, or alternatively called Herb bennet (Geum urbanum), strangely growing beside the Caldon canal towpath (the canal providing the backdrop) close to the Hollybush public house at Denford in Stoke-on-Trent.
A plant which was used for many medicinal uses including: diarrhoea, halitosis, and mouth ulcers, to counteract snake venom and ease dog bites.
Additionally it was thought to ward off eveil spirits, rabid dogs and snakes.
