Il Castello di Villalta è il più importante maniero medievale del Friuli. 
 La sua storia si perde nella notte dei tempi, come attestano fondamenta romane e tracce di un castelliere. Il documento più antico che lo riguarda risale al 1158.
Varie volte assediato, distrutto e riedificato tra il 1200 e il 1400, subì infine un importante ampliamento nel 1500 che gli diede l’aspetto monumentale che ancora oggi lo caratterizza. Fu per secoli proprietà dei Signori di Villalta-Caporiacco e dei Conti della Torre, famiglia nobile e prestigiosa nel Patriarcato di Aquileia, a cui diede ben tre Patriarchi.
La doppia cinta muraria, i camminamenti di ronda, il ponte levatoio, le torri di difesa e i pittoreschi e romantici cortili interni sono testimoni delle passate grandezza e importanza strategica del castello.

THE CASTLE OF VILLALTA

The Castle of Villalta is the most important medieval castle in Friuli.
  Its history is lost in the mists of time, as attested by Roman foundations and traces of a castle. The oldest document concerning him dates back to 1158.
Several times besieged, destroyed and rebuilt between 1200 and 1400, it finally underwent an important expansion in 1500 which gave it the monumental aspect that still characterizes it today. For centuries it was owned by the Lords of Villalta-Caporiacco and the Counts della Torre, a noble and prestigious family in the Patriarchate of Aquileia, to whom it gave as many as three Patriarchs.
The double walls, the walkways, the drawbridge, the defense towers and the picturesque and romantic internal courtyards are witnesses of the castle's past greatness and strategic importance.
