Poole Hospital, Dorset - a photo on Flickriver

            The hospital was formed in 1897 and was based in a Georgian Mansion that dated to the mid 18th centaury and was named Cornelia Hospital after Lady Cornelia Spencer-Churchill. 

In 1907 the hospital moved to Logfleet Road and later took over the Poole Workhouse close by. 

In the 1960s a major rebuilding took place. Aside from the maternity at St Mary's Road being extended in 1961 the Longfleet Road site was rebuilt in two phases. The first phase saw a new ward block built with theatres and X-Ray while the old building was then demolished and the second phase being built in it's place being officially opened by Queen Elizabeth 2nd in July 1969. 

Since then the hospital has expanded into new buildings and much of the older buildings from the 1960s have been heavily modernised. The maternity unit is still based nearby while the hospital also have the Forest Holme unit a short distance from the main hospital. It is now part of the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Trust.
