1987-08 Classic Diesel Haulage on North-East Local Services – Set 4 / 4

These images are scans of photographs I took of locomotive-hauled local services that were common in north-east England in 1987, particularly on Newcastle-Middlesbrough and Newcastle-Carlisle services, using three coach rakes.
They were to substitute for the problematic Pacers (Class 143s) that were suffering failures of the mechanical gearboxes they had fitted from new.

These photographs were taken using a simple camera that couldn’t be focussed, which took Instamatic 110 format film, so are of poor / grainy quality, and are added purely for historic interest… I was only 13 at the time, and unfortunately, it was another two years before I got a proper camera and started taking 35mm slides.
