Petrie Island pathway - a photo on Flickriver

            Last week, my wife and I decided to take a walk on Petrie Island which lies in the eastern part of the city of Ottawa. Petrie Island is a low-lying island found on the Ottawa River and contains wetlands, small forests, beaches and a marina. A volunteer group known as the Friends of Petrie Island has created trails with signs identifying special plants and trees, and has built several look-outs to observe the many birds and turtles that live in the wetlands. We hadn't visited it in a long time and were pleasantly surprised by how it's developed. The volunteer group should be very proud of their accomplishments. We sat in one of the home-made chairs on a look-out and I began this sketch. It's certainly a precious parkland that deserves to be visited often.

La semaine dernière, ma femme et moi avons décidé de faire une promenade sur l'île Petrie qui se trouve dans la partie est de la ville d'Ottawa. L'île Petrie est une île basse située sur la rivière des Outaouais et contient des terres humides, de petites forêts, des plages et une marina. Un groupe de bénévoles connu sous le nom de Les Amis de l’île Petrie a créé des sentiers avec des panneaux identifiant des plantes et des arbres spéciaux, et a construit plusieurs belvédères pour observer les nombreux oiseaux et tortues qui vivent dans les zones humides. Nous ne l'avions pas visité depuis longtemps et avons été agréablement surpris par son développement. Le groupe de bénévoles devrait être très fier de ses réalisations. Nous nous sommes assis dans l'une des chaises et j'ai commencé ce croquis. C'est certainement un parc précieux qui mérite d'être visité souvent.
