...on the road east we met a drover, well over 100km from home, trying to keep his cattle alive on the long paddock.  Since then there has been some good rain in the west.  Hope the rain fell over the drover's place and he can return home.

Drovers are a common sight at present in the outback, where cattle are moved along a highway corridor or stock route (colloquially known as the "long paddock") for feed to save the cattle from a severe drought.  Drovers often move cattle hundreds of kilometres to areas that have had rain and there is grass to feed the herd.
