5572 at Old Oak Common Open Day 1985

            Great Western "small prairie" tank engine number 5572 in steam at Old Oak Common, London, on the occasion of the Open Day on 15th September 1985. There were three standard gauge locomotives in steam, 5572, 6000 and 46229, together with broad gauge replica "Iron Duke" and a narrow gauge visitor from the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (the cab is visible to the left of the photograph). 

5572 is one of the locomotives that owes it's existence today to the fact that it was stored at Barry Island awaiting scrapping following withdrawal in April 1962. It was one of the earlier rescues from the scrapyard, in August 1971.

My photographs on this day were all taken with an Olympus compact, a cheap, trendy little camera at the time but not capable (in my hands at least) of producing a good quality result. The negatives are long gone and the images are all scanned from rather faded photographs.
