Fest For Beatles Fans, 2016: Peter Asher With Chad and Jeremy, Again

            Peter Asher noted the Everly Brothers (above on the screen) as an early influence for both himself and Gordon Waller as wells as for Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde.  Asher recorded "World Without Love," a tune Paul McCartney wrote, after John Lennon rejected it for a Beatles record.   Paul finished the song when Asher asked for one.

With "World Without Love," Peter and Gordon were the second British act, after the Beatles themselves, to have a number-one hit in America, in the spring of 1964.  It wouldn't be until that September when a British band without any connection to the Beatles would top the American charts with a song not by Lennon and McCartney.   That band were the Animals, who topped the Billboard singles chart with their cover of the American folk tune "House of the Rising Sun."
