Former Saint Bede Roman Catholic Church (Alternative View, B&W): West 12 Mile Road--Southfield MI

            This Gunnar Birkerts-designed church in Southfield is very likely to be lost. The parish closed a few years ago and was combined with another Catholic church in the area.

After the local council turned down a request to sell the property for a Wal-Mart, it voted to sell the property for a mixed-use development.

The bold triangular shapes and the horizontal planes make this a simple but powerful design.
