Lotus d'Egypte (Nymphaea lotus) - a photo on Flickriver

            Nymphéacée aux feuilles de 30-50 cm, écussonnées et circulaires, dentées-aigües, d'un vert foncé brillant. Fleurs de 15-30 cm, blanches, les pétales extérieurs souvent teintés d'un soupçon de rose, bien parfumées. Baies charnues se décomposant dans l'eau.

Autres noms français : Lotus blanc ou tigré. Le genre est répandu avec environ 50 espèces dans les zones  tropicales et une multitude d'hybrides (cf. A Bärtels).
