Sakitsu Catholic Church：崎津天主堂

Sakitsu Catholic Church, built in 1569 at a small village in Amakusa island, after hundreds of years under prohibition and sever repression against Christianity.Sakitsu is located in a small bay side closed in by the perpendicularly rising cliffs. Japanese Christians hid themselves among such remote places to continue their belief. The altar of the church is placed just at the same site where they had been suffered the loyalty test, being forced to step on the holy icon.
