El trencalòs és caut / Lammergeier shape and colors

Després de més d'una hora esperant a que les desenes de voltors comuns fessin net del seu menjar, aquests anaren marxant al seu ritme. Quan no en va quedar ni un, continuarem esperant dins del aguait a l'espera del molt menys nombrós i discret trencalòs (gypaetus barbatus). Finalment en va apareixer un voltant per sobre nostre. Per desgracia, va fer un parell de voltes d'inspecció... però no aterrà pas. Alguna cosa no li va fer el pès, i això que nosaltres estavem en complet silenci i invisibles dins l'aguait. En fí, ens va posar la mel als llavis per a tornar-hi algun altre dia...

Per cert, sabeu que el trencalòs té la panxa blanca, però que es banya expressament en fonts ferruginoses per tornar-la carbassa? Ara en tenim la prova gràfica:

Feia molts anys que volia anar a veure un aguait de voltors al Pirineu, sobretot des de que va sortir el d'Alinyà pel programa de TV3 "Tocats de l'Ala". Entre la pandemia i tot plegat he trigat fins al setembre de 2023 per a poder-hi anar. Al final he anat al mateix de Alinyà, per la relativa proximitat. Desgraciadament allà és més dificil veure el voltor negre, i els aufranys ja havien migrat cap al Àfrica. Per tant veuriem segur un munt de voltors comuns i teniem l'esperança de veure l'estrella del show, el trencalòs.

After more than an hour waiting for the dozens of griffon vultures to clean up their bait, they left at their own pace. When there wasn't a single one left, we'll continue to wait inside the hide waiting for the much less numerous and discreet bearded vulture (gypaetus barbatus). Finally one appeared above us. Unfortunately, it did a couple of inspection laps... but it didn't land. Something did bother him, even that we were in complete silence and invisible in the hide. So close yet barely satisfying... we must return again some day.

Do you know their feathers are not orange but white? They make up in ferruginous springs in the mountains, to show status among them. Now we have images here in Catalonia:

For many years I wanted to go and see a vulture hide in the Pyrenees, especially since the one in Alinyà came out on the TV3 birding program "Tocats de l'Ala". Between the pandemic and other issues, it took me until September 2023 to be able to go there. In the end I went to the same one in Alinyà, due to its relative proximity. Unfortunately, it is more difficult to see the black vulture there, and the Egyptian vulture had already migrated to Africa. So we're sure to see a lot of griffon vultures and we're hoping to see the star of the show, the bearded vulture.
