Eye of the Leopard (Cropped) - a photo on Flickriver

            After many days of tracking the elusive leopard we were given the ultimate sighting. We were fortunate enough to see a trio of leopards, mother cub and the nomadic male father  (Blue Eyes). Such a sighting is extremely rare as male leopards cover wide distances within their territory and rarely share time with females and offspring (other than mating). After an hour observing the three of them, the male continued his nomadic ways, leaving mother and baby to continue to bond. Play time up high in the trees, on the ground and on low lying logs and branches. Eventually play time ended with a stern growl from mother and the cub was hidden in the thicket. Mother's attention then turned to providing and over the next 3 hours we followed the mother on the hunt, stalking impala and even trying her luck with birds (see my other photos). 

This photo is one of three of my favourites taken during the trip. I was fortunate enough to have a light ray shining directly onto the face of the small cub as he walked along the log. This version utilises the same coloration throughout the photo (edited on the DSLR). I have also posted the original non-edited version. I don't know which one I prefer - would be interested to hear your thoughts.
