_DSC5796 1 Le fond de Buval - a photo on Flickriver

            Le fond  de Buval est un ravin situé sur la pente de la colline de Lorette. Tenue par les allemands dès le mois d’octobre 1914, cette position creusée d’une multitude de tranchées et d’abris profonds à l’épreuve de tout bombardement est rapidement considérée comme imprenable.
Au cœur des combats de l’offensive française lancée en mai 1915, le fond de Buval est reconquis le 18 juin au prix de pertes considérables, ce qui lui vaut le surnom de « Ravin maudit ».
