            Le lieu idéal pour une promenade romantique
Contre-pied du « jardin à la française », dont il refuse le tracé géométrique et les perspectives, le jardin à l’anglaise puise son inspiration dans le romantisme.
Ce type de jardin se veut paysage et œuvre d’art, le but est d’imiter la nature, d’imiter son côté sauvage afin d’exalter la poésie d’un lieu.
Ici vers le grand canal qui était la grande fierté du jardinier. Il avait réussi à détourner la Nonette, un affluent de l’Oise pour construire cette étendue d’eau de 2,6 km de long plus longue que celle de Versailles.
