Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, Oceanside California

            The Spanish missions of California are a series of 21 religious outposts; established by Catholic priests of the Franciscan order between 1769 and 1833, to expand Christianity in North America.

Mission San Luis Rey was founded in 1798 by Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuen, and was named after St. Louis IX, King of France, who lived during the 13th century.  It is architecturally distinctive due to the combination of Spanish Renaissance, Moorish—Mudéjar, and Spanish Colonial architecture styles.
