Bishop Castle in San Isabel National Forest, Colorado

            Bishop Castle is an elaborate and intricate one-man construction named after its creator, Jim Bishop, which has become a roadside attraction in southern Colorado. Every year since 1969, Bishop has single-handedly gathered and set over 1000 tons of rock to create this stone and iron fortress in the middle of nowhere. 

It is a monumental creation with three stories of interior rooms complete with a grand ballroom, soaring towers and bridges, and a fire-breathing dragon.  A bit reminiscent of “Lord of the Rings”, you might feel as though you have stepped back in time with a visit to this famous structure nestled in the forest.  Bishop recently retired due to poor health.
