Celebrating Jimmy's life - a photo on Flickriver

            Yesterday I had to say goodbye to one of the beings I've loved most in my whole life.  I have no doubt that when I'm at the end of my life and look over all the people who meant the most to me, Jimmy will be right up there close to the top.

This is all I'll say about his dying - he crashed in about a week.  On Saturday (9 days ago) he stayed out overnight and on Sunday morning when he came back inside he was not right.  We thought heat exhaustion and dehydration.  On Tuesday I took him to the vet for blood work because he still wasn't quite right.  He was severely anemic.  By this past Saturday (day before yesterday) he wasn't eating, purring or looking at me.  Yesterday he was wobbly and vacant.  When I took him to the vet, further bloodwork showed he was so anemic he would need a transfusion.  The vet suspected cancer.  So from start to finish, it was 8 days of not being himself and then crashing.

Now, onto celebrating his life.  If you've followed me on Flickr for a while, you know that Jimmy is my shadow.  The hardest part of taking his photograph is to create enough space between us that I can take his picture.  He will follow me through rain and snow and I have to trick him to take the dog on a walk, otherwise, Jimmy would follow.  You also know that Jimmy allowed me to dress him up in humiliating costumes and that he forgave me every time I took him to the vet to have something done - he has been a bit of a medical disaster since day one.  

My comfort at this moment is that I KNOW Jimmy felt loved.  He was confident of his place in my heart.  We were buddies and I never once got mad at him.  He was always welcome on my lap, I always had time to pet him, sing to him, snuggle with him, tell him how wonderful he was.  I thank my lucky stars to have had a friend like Jimmy.

This photo was taken Saturday, the day before he died.  Please look through his album and see some of the fun we've had together.  It's funny, I don't want to talk about Jimmy with just anyone, but I feel like my Flickr friends knew him best.  Thank you for knowing him.
