LT M256, Beechen Grove, Watford, 1986

            Taken from an unusual view point by well known transport author  Stewart J. Brown, London Transport Metrobus M256 is captured on Beechen Grove, Watford from the heights of the multi-storey car park. The bus is operating the 142 service from Watford Junction to Edgware. This would have been just days before the service was handed to London Country North West, who began operations on the 142 as of 21st June 1986. 

M256 had a 22-year life, but the last two years appear to have seen the bus laid up and possibly sourced for parts. This brief history from the excellent 'Ian's bus stop' website records its life: - 

5/1980  New: 2M2, MCW Metrobus DR101/12, H43/28D, red

6/80 SE new into service on 18 (Stonebridge)
                 
4/82  Converted at Chiswick to Airbus, H43/9D (luggage racks fitted in lower saloon in place of free standing seating.
                 
1984  Restored to standard, red livery and internal layout converted back to H43/28D
                
11/1994  Passed to London General in privatisation of LT

7/2000 AL (Merton)
                 
8/2000  Sold to Ensign Bus (dealer) Essex

8/00  Hired to Shamrock Coaches, Wales
                
11/2000  Returned to Ensign Bus (Dealer), Essex.

5/2002  Sold to PVS (breaker) Carlton, South Yorks for scrap.
