Using a Canon SX70 HS camera with a Raynox DCR-150 Macro Adapter to take Measurements (3 of 3)

To illustrate the method I've estimated the length of the Psychoides filicivora micro-moth photographed in Kingmoor South on 7 June, as shown earlier in a heavily cropped image.  

Photo 3 shows the original photo, with the relevant measurements taken from my PC screen (which happened to be in cm) marked on.  It can be seen that the moth is 33% of the width of the photo - ie 9.8/29.8.

The focal length of the camera - which can be found by right clicking the photo and looking at Properties - was 76mm.  As it happens, this was one of the focal lengths used during the calibration process, and the width of view was measured at 18.1mm.  However, in order to demonstrate the method, this has been calculated using the formula derived previously:

Width of View = 1082/(76**0.9444) = 1082/59.7 = 18.1 (ie this point happens to be exactly on the fitted curve!)

Therefore, the estimated length of the moth is 0.33*18.1 = 6mm
