College Park East Roofs - a photo on Flickriver

            Circa 1973. Viewing southwest. I took this photo while standing on the veranda on the 2nd floor of our house in College Park East. All of the homes visible show cedar wood shingles and swing-up garage doors, original features of the homes in this S&S Homes* development. These days, nearly all have shingles other than wood and also have sectioned roll-up style garage doors with powered openers. Note the presence of a couple of television antennas. Also note the absence of power lines to the street lighting and the absence of utility poles. Underground utility lines were just coming into use when College Park East homes began construction in 1965.

Taken with my father's Contax IIa rangefinder 35mm film camera with 5cm f/1.5 Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens.

*S&S stood for Shapell & Shapell, the builders who also built Garden Park in Garden Grove abutting College Park East in Seal Beach; College Park West also in Seal Beach but near the county line next to Long Beach; and College Park North in Los Alamitos. El Dorado Park Estates homes that abut the Los Angeles-Orange County line near Los Alamitos High School were also built by S&S.
