وفقاً للرقص المصرى أو ما يعرف بالرقص الشرقى كانت الراقصة قديماً ترتدى قبقاب عالى مصنوع من الخشب المُطعم بالصدف، ويوضع عدد من الأوانى الفخرية الرشيقة ذات الألوان الزاهية فى موضع الرقص، وعلى الراقصة أن تؤدى حركاتها السريعة مع الحفاظ على توازنها وعدم المساس بالأوانى الفخارية وإلا تهشمت، وهو ما كان يُعد تحدياً كبيراً للراقصة المصرية ودليلاً على مهارتها البالغة، وقد انتشر الرقص المصرى أو البلدى بعد دخول الأتراك مصروبلغ معظم بلدان الشرق الأوسط التى غزاها الأتراك، وبدأ يُمارس الرقص المصرى راقصات غير مصريات لم يسعهن استخدام القبقاب لصعوبة المحافظة على التوازن اثناء الرقص بين الفخاريات، واندثر هذا الطقس من الرقص المصرى إلى الأبد
 
According to Egyptian dance or belly dance, vintage dancers used to wear Wooden Mother of Pearl high heels, while a number of brightly colored clay pots are placed on the dance floor, The dancer should perform her quick movements while maintaining her balance & not to touch the pottery vessels, otherwise the vessels will get broken, which was considered a great challenge for the Egyptian dancer & a good sign of her extreme skill ...  After Turkish invasion of Egypt the Egyptian dance spread out in the Middle East countries invaded by Turks, so Egyptian dance began to be performed by non-Egyptian dancers who couldn’t use the high heels & keep balanced between the potteries .. thus; this technique has disappeared from the Egyptian dance forever.
