Eastward. Gunung Penginuman, Bali, from Ketapang, Java, Indonesia

            This is where my trail-seeking of Johannes Elias Teijsmann (1808-1882) has now taken me. He was, of course, the indefatigable and versatile botanic traveler and explorer as hortulanus of 's Lands Plantentuin at Buitenzorg, today's Kebun Raya at Bogor, Java. In service to the government of the Dutch Indies (today Indonesia) Teijsmann made many voyages of discovery in the Indonesian Islands and also Thailand, especially to find economically viable plants. He kept a detailed diary of his undertakings with vivid descriptions, also of the area of this photo. 
Here from the easternmost point of Java - Ketapang and Banyuwangi - is a view of the Penginuman Hills just across the strait on Bali. The highest peak is about 600 metres.
