This is one of two sites associated with schools in the Mount Cottrell district. One site was on the east side of Dukelows Road, between Dohertys Road and Boundary Road. The last site (above) was adjoining Cobbledicks Reserve on the west side of Dukelows Road.
All that remains of the school are several garden beds made from local basalt stones, which lined the original entrance path from Dukelows Road.

Mount Cottrell State School No 804 opened in a leased building on 01 Feb 1921. The first head teacher was Victor Malone, who continued there until 1923. The school closed in 1949, when Leslie Mulgrew was Head Teacher, and enrolment had dropped to 7.

The school building was moved to the Truganina Progress Association Grounds, for pony club use in 1968. It burned down there on 08 Feb 1969. It was originally built in three sections by the council with rent money from grazing rights at Cobbledicks Ford Reserve. It was rented to the Education Dept for a peppercorn rent.
