Pont Fawr at night with the Afon Conwy in spate

We went down to Wales last weekend to visit my parents who stay in Llanrwst. After clear skies on the Friday night rain fell heavily on the Saturday and the rivers rose. One 2-hour spell in the afternoon the rain was unbelievable, biblical, awesome. Standing out in it for just seconds got you soaked to the skin. The already swollen rivers couldn't cope and rose rapidly spilling over into fields and lapping onto neighbouring roads. The waterfalls thundered with spectacular force. This photo was taken about 6hrs after the floods had peaked and were starting to drop. But the levels were still very high flowing under Inigo Jones' slender, graceful 1636 bridge spanning the Afon Conwy here at Llanrwst.
The old, stone building at the far end is a tea room and they are well used to being flooded like this. Apparently they just move all the kitchen equipment & furniture out and wait till the floodwaters recede. It reminds me of a charming wurstkuche at Regensburg on The Danube where similar happens and they have white lines drawn on the walls marking all the significant floods in history...1899, 1954, 1975, 1991, 2002...
